CPR training is something all should know something about. Situations arise and knowing what to do could save a life. Shana Larocque is one of those CPR heros. Here is her story.
A Hero Story – I just had to reach out and share this story with you. My name is Shana Larocque and I took the BLS course last Saturday with you. I am an occupational therapist and I work in a nursing home. I had to recertify my BLS certification hence the course last Saturday.
I was at work today and the residents were finishing lunch. One of the residents walked out of her room. Was unable to speak, lips turning blue and gasping for air. She was choking. I immediately did the Heimlich maneuver, and she then became unresponsive and unable to breathe.
I immediately laid her down on the floor and started administering CPR while other staff got the crash cart. We used a rebreather and I provided 2 rounds of CPR until EMS arrived.
She regained ability to breathe and began aspirating and vomiting so I rolled her on her side. After vomiting her breathing started to come back to normal. The ambulance took her to the hospital, but she was stable when she left the facility.
There are no coincidences, and I can’t thank you enough because if it wasn’t for Ken being so thorough in helping me refresh my CPR skills, this woman would have suffered major medical complications. I just wanted say thank you from the bottom of my heart.
